Risk Index Explained

The Risk Index provides a data-driven view of risk exposure. It builds upon the existing Critical Index framework, but with a focus on the AI Risk Assessment levels; Safe, Moderate, or High.

How the Risk Index is Calculated

The Risk Index combines Blindsight's AI risk assessment, and human reviews to produce a single, weighted score that reflects current risk levels over time.

The calculation prioritises human reviews when available. If a detection has not been reviewed, the system will use Blindsights AI risk assessment.

The Risk Index formula is:

risk_index = ((1 Γ— high_risk_count) + (0.5 Γ— moderate_risk_count)) / enabled_hours

In this formula:

  • High-risk detections are given full weight, reflecting their critical importance.

  • Moderate-risk detections contribute at half weight.

  • The result is normalised over enabled hours, allowing fair comparison across time periods or systems with varying levels of activity.

Why the Risk Index Exists

The Risk Index was developed to provide a measure of risk that integrates AI insights with human judgment. By combining automated risk assessments with user reviews, the index helps identify patterns of elevated risk, highlight areas needing attention, and support proactive decision-making.
